David grew up in Dundee, a small town in northern KwaZulu-Natal, with a passion for three things: photography, helping people and travel. He fell in love with photography at the age of 8 when on a family holiday - ordering his first camera off the back of a Cornflakes box: a Kodak 110. Even at that age he realised that to really appreciate the places he visited, he needed to photograph them. Thus his passion for photography and travel photography was born. Having ‘outgrown’ the Kodak in high school, he borrowed his Dad´s Pentax SLR, a pre light-meter Pentax, and took it to school to photograph class mates. The money he earned from his first holiday job (a whopping R10 a day) was spent on developing and printing photographs. Around the same time, he discovered one of his other passions: people, or more specifically teaching people, helping people and inspiring people. Throughout his life, he has found that very little gives him more satisfaction than helping someone to grow, and of course capturing a great photograph. These are still the things that sustain him as a person, which allow him to live his dreams... David is a founding member of the College of Digital Photography and is still actively involved as a senior lecturer and in the development of the photographic and Photoshop courses run by the college. At a very young age, he learnt about the world view enshrined in the Zulu maxim umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu, i.e. "a person is a person through other persons", and endeavour to take cognisance of this in his daily life and dealings with others. |

Frank’s passion lies in Nature and Macro photography, with a special interest in Landscapes as well. Teaching Visual Design and how to see images is a key ingredient in his photographic instruction.
